Making Movie Titles

Throughout the history of cinema, the first thing we invariably see is not the leads, but the titles to set the tone of what is to come.

One such title designer is Dan Perri. You might not know his name, but you certainly know his titles. During his illustrious career, Dan designed the iconic titles for movies such as: Star Wars, Raging Bull, The Exorcist, Taxi Driver, Days of Heaven, Close Encounters, Wall Street, Airplane!, Platoon, Gangs of New York, An Officer and a Gentlemen, The Color of Money, All the President’s Men, Nashville, Insomnia, and many more.

In this video, Dan discusses how he designed a selection of these titles and he also reveals some of his clever designs that were not selected for these movies.
