Female Directors in Hollywood

Since the 1920s, Hollywood has been a very male dominated industry. This has made it harder for female directors to break through. As a result, the stories we are shown on screen often reflect the male gaze, not the female one.

In this TED Talk, the film reporter and critic, Alicia Malone, discusses the importance of why the industry needs more female directors. Especially in relation to giving audiences a balanced view of the world we live in.

Alicia has been a film expert on Access Hollywood, CNN, Hollywood Today Live, MTV, and Turner Classic Movies.

In the years since this TED Talk, the industry has barely changed. So, this talk is as relevant as it was when it was first broadcast.
