Parasite Storyboards

Storyboarding a production before shooting is common place. It is most often done by a storyboard artist working closely with the director to create the boards they need. However, in some instances the director will storyboard the production themselves.

Prior to shooting Parasite, director Bong Joon-Ho storyboarded the entire screenplay himself. During the shoot he rarely deviated from the boards. So much so, that when watching the film alongside the boards, they match. A cinematic version of the storyboards.

To help fellow filmmakers and fans of Parasite, Bong Joon-Ho published a book of the film’s storyboards, which this video uses to demonstrate how closely they match the finished film.

Parasite went on to become the first foreign film in history to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
