When screenwriter Aaron Sorkin adapted the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, he renamed it The Social Network. Both written versions differ from the actual story of how Facebook was founded — artistic licence was used to heighten the drama.
The screenplay found its way to director David Fincher who was keen to direct. Fincher took the decision to shoot the movie on the Red One digital camera. Fincher shot a huge number of takes throughout. For the opening scene alone, he shot over 90 takes.
Upon release, the film was praised by critics and received multiple Oscar nominations. In the time since its release, its reputation has grown considerably. Many now speak of it as the best film of the last twenty years.
